Marin population growth at 0.7 percent in 2009 Marin County’s population grew a bit slower in 2009 than in 2008, while the state’s population grew at the one of the slowest rates on record, according to new state demographic figures released Thursday. The state Department of Finance reported that Marin added 1,804 residents from July 2008 to July 2009, bringing Marin’s total population to 259,772, an increase of 0.7 percent. Over the past 10 years, Marin has averaged a population growth rate of 0.59 percent, adding 11,471 people. During 2009, there were 896 more births in Marin than deaths, and there was a net migration of 908 people. “In good times and bad, Marin seems to be a very desirable destination. That does not seem to change over the years. People really want to live here and stay here,” said Edward Segal, executive officer of the Marin Association of Realtors.
