Is it true that the Icelanders are descended from vikings?

The ancestors of the Icelanders do indeed include a large percentage of Scandinavians, especially from Norway either directly or via Ireland or Scotland, but genetic research has also shown that there were plenty of others in the mix, probably as a result of large numbers of accompanying slaves, wives and others brought in from Britain and Ireland or possibly the Baltic states.
