Is it worth spending extra money, say $10+ on shampoos and conditioners for hair?

…the extra money doesn’t seem to equate to better cleansing or softening of either shampoos or conditioners (respectively), at least for my hair type. What I have found, however, is that using a clarifying shampoo is what really makes the difference. For me, it seems to boost the performance of whatever shampoo/conditioner I use, regardless of the price I paid for them. Over time, shampoos, conditioners, and styling products leave a build-up or residue on the hair. The hair starts looking dull, weighted down, and drab. I finally asked my stylist why this is and she explained that the hair gets so built up with residue (from shampoo, conditioners, and styling products) that the shampoo and conditioner can’t do their job. Basically, you’re washing buildup, not hair. This is why a lot of stylists will recommend changing out shampoos about every three or four months.
