Is kwik fit a good garage?

Nope. Find a nice small independent garage with a time served mechanic. Ask locally for recommended garages. Don’t take it to a main dealer as you will be overcharged, you are paying for his shiny showroom. Depending on make, a head gasket repair can come in at between £500 and £1500 depending on who quotes you. For example a local dealer quoted me £1200 to do my MGF. An ex rover guy was recommended to me on a forum and he travelled from Kent to Leicester, changed the gasket and the water pump plus gave the car a service for £500 and I could watch him do it.

Kwik fit don’t take on this type of work. 1. Look for independent specialist for your make car. 2. Look for Auto Engineers locally as well. 3. Dealer for your make of car Get quotes from a few and compare. Get any recommendations as well locally if possible. Your best bet is usually an independent specialist for your make of car. The Stealers (I mean dealers) are normally over priced, but worth checking as you never know. Auto Engineers normally undertake this kind of work as well. For a typical 4 or 6 cylinder inline engine, you should be looking under 500quid mark. Depends what needs doing to be honest. You may need head skimming. For a more complex job, like Vaux Omega 2.5l V6 your looking more like over the 1k mark including both heads skimmed. These are a real pig and engine has to be dropped out to get both heads off. Dealers will try to charge 4000quid for that. In part because if they can mug you, they will, and also because they don’t really fancy that sort of work.

no they are fitters not mechanics you would be better taking it to a private garage that is in the good mechanics scheme probobly cheaper and almost certainly do a better job also it helps the local economy rather than giving it to a corporation
