Lactic acid is a very gentle Alpha Hydroxy Acid and only penetrates to the middle layer of skin. Derived from milk, lactic acid is appropriate for all skin types, and is your best choice if you have sensitive skin. Using a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher before going outdoors is necessary, however, as AHA usage may increase sensitivity in some people.
