Love and fear are both responses that are biologically part of the human organism. Both are seen in animals, too. They are adaptations that encourage survival and reproduction of the species. However, I think you are asking about the kinds of emotions that people express that seem to be based on imaginary things. Some people tend to make pictures or say things to themselves about things that *might* happen, or that happened long ago and feel those reactions of fear, anxiety, love, etc. Usually when we examine these more closely, we do find that they have some purpose. They protect or motivate, for instance. For instance, I knew a young man once who was afraid to talk to a girl that he liked. When we discussed his fear, it was to protect him from the pain he thought he’d feel if the girl rejected him.
