Madonna fans do have a point: she was after all, Guinness’ Most successful female artist of all time. While I agree with Guinness, it must be put into proper context. If you dissect sales record of every year since both their debuts, you’ll see that Madonna has NEVER topped a year-end chart, nor has she ever become the top-performing artist in any year, more so in any decade. Whereas Mariah Carey has been Artist of the Year thrice, for Mariah Carey, Daydream, and TEOM. She has also received the Best selling Album of the year twice, for Mariah Carey and TEOM. She is also the only female artist to have the #1 song of the year. All these achievements made her Artist of the Decade, and female artist of the millennium. Mariah has been cited as the most successful female artist of all time by Billboard, AMA, WMA, Capital FM (London), MTV Asia, Bambi (Germany), Lady of Soul, and a lot more.
