Is malt loaf healthy?
If you’re talking about something like the Soreen Fruity malt loaf (yum!) then it’s extremely healthy. The product is packed with complex carbs, giving slow sustained energy release, which means it’s ideal for endurance sports like walking or cycling, but also good for just staving off hunger pangs at your desk all day. Much better in that regard than something with simple short chain sugars, like a can of fizzy pop, which gives an instant energy hit but which (thanks to the insulin response) then leaves you feeling low. Please note, SUGAR IS NOT UNHEALTHY per se, it’s all to do with how much you eat, in what form, and in what ratio to other nutrients. However, unless you need a quick energy fix (e.g. hitting the ‘wall’ in a marathon) then complex carbs are generally considered better for you than simple sugars such as sucrose, dextrose & fructose.
