Is medication the only solution for severe depression?

0

Medication should never be considered all of the solution to depression or any other mental health problem, but part of the solution/road to recovery. If you had a psychical health problem, I’m sure you would not hesitate to take medication in order to get better. Mental illness is “real”, and shouldn’t be viewed any differently. Some people are depressed due to chemical imbalances in their brain, if this is the case, then only anti-depressants will correct the problem. It doesn’t have to be a long term thing, if a person take anti-depressants, sometimes their brain carries on producing the same levels of serotonin even after the person has stopped taking the medication. You mention other solutions to depression not working. If a person is too low then sometimes nothing they try will help. Being on an anti-depressant that works for you will relieve the symptoms of your depression enough for you to explore other options that will help overcome your depression eg. engaging in therapy.
