Is Mel Gibson a born-again Christian?
Only God knows the heart of Mel Gibson. As he introduced his movie to our group last summer, he talked about a spiritual turning point in his life and said that this movie had been his daily meditation for more than a decade. He talked about the presence of the Holy Spirit while he made the movie and about the obvious spiritual warfare he experienced while he was filming. I have read other comments Mel is reported to have made in interviews that are troubling. Would he embrace a gospel that teaches that a man is made right before God on the basis of grace alone through faith alone? Is he putting any confidence in his own righteousness or in his baptism as a Roman Catholic to save him? Only God knows. We ought to pray for Mel, that he like each of us would continue to grow in his understanding of the Scriptures and of the gospel. Lets also pray that God will use The Passion of the Christ to present the reality of the gospel to millions of moviegoers. Pray that the curious might be stirr
