Albany to Uniondale is 135 miles as the crow flies. Albany to Darien Center is 236. Neither of these measurements takes into account where the actual roads are. (Why that’s so hard to find, I don’t know.) Besides Nassau Coliseum being closer, Darien Lake is a notoriously poor venue, unable to deal effectively with traffic, unable or unwilling to handle out-of-control attendees. It’s routine for people on the way to a concert to his a complete stand-still traffic jam a few miles out, requiring another 45 minutes to travel the two miles. Once inside the parking lot, there’s no supervision, so gridlock is common–as are fistfights from frustrated people who can hear the opening act. The crowd at any typical show has *lots* of drunk guys being obnoxious, and complaints to security staff results in very few ejections. If you manage to enjoy the show, it can take another ninety minutes to get out of the parking lot. I’ve been to a half dozen shows there, and I’ll never go there again. It was
