Is Nicolaus Copernicus the father of modern astronomy?

0

Yes, he is considered the father of modern astronomy because he was the first one to seriously challenge the geocentric (earth-centered) model of the universe. Others had challenged this idea before him, but they had mostly been ignored. It was Copernicus’ work that finally started the transition to the realization that the Earth did indeed go around the Sun.

I wouldn’t consider him modern. He lived during the Renaissence period. Modern guys are more like Haley or Hubbell perhaps.
