Is our judicial system racially biased?

The system itself is not biased, but the people in power may be. Most of which are elderly white males that lived in the time of segregation or grew up being taught that ‘colored’ races are evil, corrupted people. It is sad that such inequality still exists today, but that is how it is. Now here’s something to think about, recently the comedian that plays Kramer on Seinfeld was accused of being ‘racist’, to which he brought up some strong points. I’m sure you’ve heard this argument before, I’m Native American Indian (which is actually the minority race of the world, not much left after we were slaughtered and before placed in tiny reservations) that lives in a white community, but I agree that it’s almost time to change the outlook on racist and racism. I feel that people of all colors need to be treated equally, including stop calling white people racists. Calling a white man a Honkey wouldn’t even stir anger in most people, but as soon as a man of white decent utters the “n” word, it

Socioeconomic’s determine our crime statistics more often than not. There is a higher likelihood of the low end of the socioeconomic being black than there is white and that leads to more crime. Black neighborhoods are often referred to as inner-city and are the location of more crime including but not limited to: Narcotics (trafficking, possession etc) Theft Robbery Prostitution Assault Murder With those circumstances the justice system is undoubtedly going to see a higher instance of blacks over whites. Yet when you look at prison stats overall you will find that the prison make-up is actually very close to the national racial make-up. You ever want to really examine a disparity in our justice system compare the gender gap in sentencing. Women are far more likely to receive less harsh sentences than men.

If you look at actual numbers, more whites are in prison than African Americans. Now, African Americans are in prison at a higher percentage than what their population percentage is. I wouldn’t say minorities commit more crimes but their crimes may tend to land them in jail more often. This doesn’t necessarily condemn the justice system to charges of racism. It may be that whites and blacks commit different types of crimes and the types of crimes that blacks commit may have mandatory sentencing laws. This is just a guess. On a different note, Mumia Abu-Jamal’s case is not an indictment of racism as he and many others would have you think it is. I have read the entire trial transcript and he, due to his courtroom demeanor, did more to damage his case than any member of the legal system could have. Those transcripts are on line. Read them and judge for yourself if it is a good example of racism.
