There’s a world of difference between people being treated unfairly based on fixed characteristics like race and sex, and being outcast because of characteristics they can (for the most part) control. I gave up smoking years ago because it was bad for my health. I’ve dropped from 350lb to 305lb in the past 12 weeks because my health was suffering. There’s no need to smoke or be fat. Re additional: These studies aren’t plucked from thin air and even if they were, many of the data are obvious. The majority of obese people have high blood pressure which inevitably leads to organ damage. The majority of obese people will develop diabetes – significantly more than people in a ‘safe’ weight range. These are observable simply by talking to people. But I do think that the data have been spun to appear more significant than they are – which is ludicrously unnecessary.
