I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. I think it can be a nice thing and can be very helpful so that kids adjust to kindergarten. If a child goes straight from all day, everyday with mom at home to 5 days of kindergarten it can be a little overwhelming. But if they have the experience of a couple of days a week of pre-school a year or so before kindergarten the transition is often easier. That’s one really nice benefit. Pre-school is also just a really nice change of pace for a lot of kids. They usually really enjoy it and as long as you’ve found a good one it’s a nice break for mom to have a couple of days a week to run some errands alone, or just sit and read a book.
