Is puff pastry the same as filo Dough?
Answer Hi…… no, puff pastry and filo (or phyllo) are two different things. Phyllo dough is ultra thin sheets of dough that you layer together with melted butter. It is used to make Baklava, for instance. It is very time consuming and difficult to make your own phyllo, so you usually would buy it pre-made in the freezer section of the grocery store. All you have to do is thaw it and it’s ready to use. Puff pastry is a dough that already is layered with butter. It’s known as a “roll-in” or “laminated” dough, meaning that you roll the butter in in many layers. You make puff pastry by mixing a simple dough, then rolling it out into a rectangle. You then smear cool butter on 2/3rds of the rectangle and fold the dough into thirds to encase the butter inside. Then you roll it out into a rectangle again, fold it in thirds, and then refrigerate for 30 minutes. After it’s refrigerated, you remove the dough and roll it out again, then fold, then refrigerate.
