Is Remembrance by Emily Bronte a sad or a romantic poem?
When I first read Remembrance I felt as though it was speaking directly to me. I am sure many people who have loved somebody deeply felt the same. At times when reading the poem I felt like I had no right to feel the same feelings as the person whom this was supposed to be written by – Rosina Alcone in the Gondal poems authored by Emily Bronte as nobody I truly love has died prematurely. Many people presume Emily Bronte suffered a great loss in love and was a very unhappy person – who else could produce such a violent and sad book as Wuthering Heights? In many ways Emily did suffer great loss, first that of her mother then that of her two older sisters. I think anybody who suffered loss like this could write deep and moving passionate poems. The poem itself is split into two, the past and the present. Sweet love of youth, forgive if I forgot thee Love and death No other star has ever shone for me Suffering and recovering.
