There seems to be much controversy today on the subject of reverse osmosis, or RO water, as I’ll refer to it from hereon. Some say it’s the cleanest & healthiest water for us to drink, while others say the exact opposite. Some say it’s better than bottled and the best way to protect yourself from contaminants that plague public water systems. This article is more from a neutral standpoint than either of the two extremes which are popular views of today. First of all, what is RO water anyway? Basically, it’s a purification technology which uses household pressure to force water through a type of membrane. This membrane is semi-permeable and separates contaminants from the water as it passes through the membrane. Many impurities are removed during this process, such as asbestos, lead, other heavy metals & many dissolved organics, things known as TDS, or total dissolved solids.
