Is sand as good as Pool Krete (vermiculite)?
Vermiculite or Poo Krete (Strong) is the proper way to construct a new pool. Pool Krete allows a layer of protection between the liner and the ground. Vermiculite will hold back “normal” ground water and not move over time. When it is time to replace the liner you will not have to add or smooth out any lumps that the sand created. Walking on vermiculite is like walking on a stiff cork board, which is better than rock hard compacted sand. There are ways to save money on building a pool, but using a sand bottom isn’t the way.
