We talked about this question in class. However, we didn’t speicify which type of comedy it is. We said this play is just a antidote for sentimental comedy. Sentimental comedy is the comedy of the time which was very boring and actually made people cry. Goldsmith wanted to create a different kind of comedy for the time period… in which he then did so with this play, “She Stoops to Conquer.
