Silica – as registered by the Lead registrant and described in the SIEF Information letters – has an amorphous structure. It is important to distinguish between the synthetic amorphous and crystalline forms which are different in their inhalation toxicity behaviour. Based on the data of the Lead Registrant the synthetic amorphous form is a non hazardous substance and therefore does not trigger any CLP classification.
