Is synthetic motor oil worth the price increase? Is it OK to change from regular oil to synthetic?

I have always used synthetic oil in all my vehicles. My Chevrolet S-10 V6 2.8 has over 230,000 miles on it and I use it to tow a trailer on a regular basis. Since synthetic oil is not petroleum, it does not “coke” or sludge in the engine due to heat cycles. If you intend on keeping the vehicle for a long time and the mileage isn’t too high at this time, then it is worth the extra money for the synthetic. If you trade every 2 or 3 years, I’d stick with the conventional oil.
