Is Tai Chi better than vigorous exercise?
Yoga or Zen Buddhism may be a better meditation exercise for mental health. But what can Tai Chi’s slow movements do to our physical as well as mental health? Why not just do jogging, gymnastics, and weightlifting? I tried to study Tai Chi with my doctor friends and staffs and of course with Tai Chi historians including Tai Chi practitioners using several sophisticated clinical devices. Finally, we discovered some fascinating results. We know that jogging, weightlifting, and other complex physical exercises reduce excess fat, and increase muscle strength. We thought that only these vigorous and fast-paced aerobatic workouts will keep your body slim, such as those found in fitness studios where complicated expensive machines are used like the photos below. However, our studies show that these machines are just for those who need extra strength, muscle, and physical appearance.
