Is taking 4 A-levels advantageous compared to 3, in terms of the success of my application?
When we look at applications we are consider both the quality and quantity of academic qualifications. Generally 3 strong A-levels are better than 4 (or more) weak ones. However if we do decide to make you an offer then it may be advantageous to you to be taking more A-levels. We normally only make offers based on 3 A-level results so it you take 4 A-levels it may become easier for you to meet our offer conditions. For example, if the offer is for “AAA including Maths and Physics” and you are taking Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Geography you need A grades in Maths and Physics but the third A could come from either the Chemistry or Geography. This gives you slightly more flexibility than getting straight A’s in just 3 subjects. However it is obviously harder to study for 4 subjects rather than 3.
