Is the AK-47 the best military firearm?

The AK-47 is one of the most capable small arms ever made for sure. Its relatively crude specifications makes it highly reliable and simple to operate; both vital traits for any battle rifle. Its lack of accuracy is more than made up for by its durability and low cost to build and maintain. In the moments where it counts, where the metal meets the meat, the AK-47 delivers unsurpassed functionality.
These days, when scalability and sophistication are required, the AK-47 has fallen behind its counterparts. Whether this is due to host country demands vs. more developed economies or weakness of design, is not certain. The AK-47 has become a dinosaur and has remained the choice of armies who lack strong capital support.
To answer the original question; the AK is ONE of the best military firearms ever made. Whether it’s THE BEST is a question for historians a millennium from now.
