Is the cable connected to the computers RS232 serial port?
The serial port is a male connector with either nine or twenty five pins. DesignaKnit cable connectors are female and do not require an adapter to change the gender. If you have connected via an adapter to a female 25 pin connector on the computer, you have connected to the parallel port and not the serial port.
