Is the character, Christine, from the Phantom of the Opera considered a coloratura soprano?

A coloratura soprano is NOT defined by range alone… a coloratura is generally a light, high floating voice. There really is no coloratura music in Phantom of the Opera, Christine just has some really high notes, that many sopranos can squeak out. Sarah Brightman, most well known for singing Christine, could hardly squeak out that E or whatever it is at the end of the Phantom of the Opera duet, and I would not call her voice “light and floating” in her higher register. So to answer your question… No. 🙂 PS – And for the love of God… did I just see a music teacher respond that Phantom of the Opera is a LIGHT OPERA? ROFL Come on! It is a Broadway Musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber, NOT AN OPERA. hehe Ok, sorry, had to get that off my chest…
