Is the community notified if an offender moves away?
Typically, no. Community notification occurs when an offender moves into a community, not out of a community. Law enforcement will be notified when an offender leaves their jurisdiction. Caution should be exercised; just because a sex offender relocates doesn’t mean he/she gives up friendships and business relationships in his or her former community. Members of the community need to continue to follow safety measures at all times, not just when an offender moves into their communities. Nor should these measures be abandoned when an offender leaves a community.
