The moisture content of the raw material plays an important role in the pelletizing process. A certain amount of moisture is used for generating heat, which is helpful to melt the natural lignin and bind the pellet together;
however too much moisture will stop achieving the required temperature, under which condition it’s impossible to produce a high density pellet. Usually speaking, the moisture content ranges at 10-20% are the basic standard for producing qualified pellets. The optimum level is at appropriate 15%. In a pellet plant, if a pellet mill uses raw material, they have to dry the materials to a consistent moisture level.
Dryer comes up with a substituted function by driving off the extra moisture. In order to generate high quality pellets, the pellet plant must consider using pipe dryers or rotary dryers to control the optimum moisture content of the raw materials.
