Domestic and international crises befell President Reagan during his tenure. The United States started a “Just Say No” campaign to save children from drug abuse. Cocaine (crack), heroin and marijuana created thousands of new addicts every day. In addition, our Latin American neighbors in Mexico, Peru and Colombia supplied our expensive habit. Drug abuse, drug dealing and violent crimes along with it invaded urban schools. He contended with Arab terrorism as it crossed international borders. In 1985, airport attacks in Rome and Athens, the Achille Largo cruise ship hijacking and the Lockerbie (Scotland) bombing prompted a retaliatory bombing on Libya. He accused that nation’s leader, Momar Ghadafyi of supporting, state-sponsored terrorism. Two Libyan intelligence officers were sentenced to long, prison terms for their roles in the Lockerbie case.
