Is the Great Dane a good inside dog or a better outside dog?
No dogs do well as outside dogs. Dogs are social creatures and become stressed and bored when kept outside. They require interaction with people or other animals to thrive, and will develop behaviors such as howling, barking, and digging if kept outside and can hurt themselves trying to get away, as well as be in danger from weather conditions. Great Danes are no exception to this and do incredibly well indoors with their family. However, it must be remembered that they are a giant breed and require enough room to rest and play comfortably. Great Danes are gentle, loving, and loyal dogs that do very well indoors, even with their large size, but like any dog can be prone to destructive behaviors without proper exercise and socialization.
The Great Dane is an inside dog that does very well in a home. However, remember, this is a large breed so it needs adequate room. In addition, this breed needs daily exercise to stretch its legs and work off some energy. Remember, you should never leave your pet tied or chained outside. Additionally, the Great Dane should not be left alone and unsupervised for long periods, due to boredom potential.
