The current population at American Camp is limited to approximately 200 individuals. The species is restricted to San Juan and Lopez Islands, San Juan Islands, Washington. Due to the island marbles small population and potentially threatened status, several conservation organizations have petitioned the species to be listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. The limitations of the only known population are unique in that the island marble is oligophagous (not dependent solely upon endemic flora for its survival) and yet limited in its range.
