Is the killer whale really an endangered animal species?

In 2008, the IUCN changed its assessment of the killer whale’s conservation status from conservation dependent to data deficient, in recognition of the likelihood that one or more killer whale types may be yet-unrecognized species. Should a new killer whale species be determined to exist, it is possible that it is an endangered species. Depletion of prey species, pollution, conflicts with fishing activities, and habitat degradation are currently the most significant threats to killer whales worldwide.
