Is the Lake City Army Ammunition plant in Missouri a “Communist” enterprise?
Duh! There have been state-owned ordnance depots and firearms factories in the U.S. and most everywhere for CENTURIES. Did you not KNOW that? It is a manufacturing facility, but in coordination with the proving grounds and Aberdeen and other locations, is also a test station, and very badly needed indeed. Just so you’ll know: Springfield Armory in Massachusetts (unrelated to the current commercial firm in Illinois, the real armory!) produced firearms until 1969. So did Rock Island Armory in Illinois, the real one. There were huge ammo depots in Denver, the Twin Cities, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Des Moines, Iowa, and at many, many other locations. These were all owned by U.S. Army Ordnance, and at various times, there have been many, many others. The U.S. Navy also owned an aircraft factory and shipbuilding yards. And we should again.
