Is the official language in Iran Farsi?
There is only one official language spoken in Iran, which is of course Farsi. However, many Iranians are able to understand English to a certain extent since English is the foreign language that everyone must learn as part of compulsory education. Other languages spoken in Iran are Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic and many dialects (see below). From CIA factbook: Farsi is the official language, with 1% of the population having Arabic as a first language. However, with a 98% muslim population, Arabic would be a de-facto second languge.
