Is the piano the hardest instrument to play?

This is my pet peeve question. Whoever answered that their own instrument or one instrument they guess is harder than another is ‘easiest’ really needs to take a look around. 1) The ease of starting an instrument is quite different than the ease of mastery. Yes, to sit down and play one note at the piano is much easier than on a string instrument. But to master the piano is a lifetime of practice. 2) Each instrument is so different, even from the violin to the cello, the oboe to the bassoon. There is a life of performance to each instrument that makes it difficult for its own intrinsic performance value. 3) As a string player of course I want to say cello is the hardest. The notes are not under my fingers like it is on a violin. Double stops and octaves are twice as hard. There is twice as much distance to cover. Producing sound requires much more bow pressure. But then, all of those things can be reversed and then the violin becomes that much more difficult. You can NOT say one instru

The piano is probably one of the easier instruments to play. Some say that bassoon and oboe are the hardest because of the double reed. The oboe is more difficult due to breathing issues. The bassoon can be difficult because of the sheer number of thumb keys, and it is awkward to hold.

Keyboard instruments are definately the hardest to play. True, there’s some strange stuff to concentrate on when playing a wind or brass instrument, like how tense your mouth is, but there’s no comparison between playing one note at a time and playing a ton. String instruments are probably second, but once you get the hang of where your fingers should be, it’s very instinctive. One reason the keyboard is hardest is that there are, when you’re playing well, many things to worry about that you’d think only apply to other instruments. Hand position and touch can greatly affect the tone quality of your playing. This is really hard to get right. Then there are the pedals; you can’t use too much sostenuto, but too little, and it sounds dry. If you put the una corda pedal down, people notice a change in the timbre. There’s a lot to worry about for the right sound. Secondly, we have to consider voice-written music. On other instruments, particularly winds, there’s really no way for one person

Well basically in my opinion there’s no such thing such as the easiest or the hardest instrument. It’s really depends on the individual that he or she find which instrument more comfrotable or interest to play with. Personally i chose piano because i like the tone and it can simply easy for me to master songs that i like to listen to.

Well there is no exact definition of hardest. I believe that instruments are equally difficult; they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Piano is hard because you must play different rythms and things with both hands; those who play it don’t seem to have a problem with this, but I do not so I think it’s hard. Clarinet, which I play, is hard because you have to cover all the holes perfectly. Most of the holes don’t have pads the way flutes or saxes do. Trumpet, which I tried once, is hard because you constantly have to change your mouth position. The same goes for other brass instruments. Sax often overblows.(I play it too) Trombonists get very tired if they play a long time b/c they have to move their arm so much. IDK about strings, I suppose the posture you have to have and the arm position is hard. I don’t know much about them. So I really don’t think there is a hardest instrument because all instruments have hard things about them.
