Is the root problem among consumers economics or fear?
Nelson: A new Travel Industry Association study of consumers says about 17% seem to be expressing safety as their primary concern and 21% are simply concerned about the economy and their own economics right now. Anderson: I agree with Marilyn. It is incumbent on government to do everything it can to build back the comfort factor that Americans had so they will get back into the marketplace. In the restaurant industry, we were starting to see a slowdown in August, (normally) the busiest time for the industry. We had no net gains in jobs in August, and that is the first time that has happened since 1967. Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers for September show the restaurant industry lost 103,000 jobs. My guess is it is even worse. Q: If the problem is confidence in the economy, personal finances or safety of travel what will your industry do to address those concerns?
