S-video, also known as Y/C, is useful when connecting a camcorder, standard-definition DVR, or satellite box to a TV. S-video does not carry HD – it only carries standard analog video but in an improved way over composite. S-video cable carries the video information into two separate signals, one for color, the other for brightness. Also see FAQ J-3.
