For the SCERTS Model manual (Prizant, Wetherby, Rubin, Laurent, & Rydell, 2006), we have focused on children in the preschool and elementary school years. However, many professionals and parents have noted that because social communication, emotional regulation, and transactional supports are life-span issues and needs for most people with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities, the model certainly would be applicable for children and individuals beyond the elementary school years, into adolescence and even adulthood. The curriculum itself is relevant for children who fall developmentally between 8 months and 10 years of age. Thus, it would be applicable for individuals who continue to have developmental disabilities through high school and into adulthood.  more
