Is the summer Olympic Games more popular than the winter Olympic Games? Why?

No and the reason is summed up with a simple question. When was the last time you went to a pool to watch the swimming, or go to the local track and cheer on the local shot putter let alone participate or compete in any of the summer games sports? The winter olympic sport are far superior by being more relevant to life, there are far more snow boarders than hurdlers and people go on holidays to go skiing far more than traveling to recreationally participate in javelin. Additionally watching winter sports are just as exciting as competing in them as opposed to the depression of watching the rings or horse in the gymnasium. The summer games are simply more marketable and therefor appeal to the masses easily, this is because large companies like Nike whos primary sporting industry is ball and track and field sports rely on sponsoring, advertising and eventually pushing these young good looking athletes to promote the company into our faces.
