Is the U.S. ready to support an occupying army in Iraq?
The U.S./British are now faced with a dilemma. After all the shock and awe, they are becoming impotent day by day in Iraq. Intensifying Iraqi guerrilla-style resistance to U.S./British occupation is spreading. Our ability to improve the overall infrastructure (phone, water, sanitation, supplies) has been sporadic and slow, leading to disenchantment among the few Iraqis who might have nucleated a real change. Our ability to counter anti-occupation Iraqi propaganda has failed (their “Information Spokesman” is back on the air) Saddam has become a mythic figure who might return, at least for some who retain significant power and influence) This whole scenario reeks of Intifada/Vietnam.
