Wow. Most researchers believe that the figures for world population are vastly overestimated (Africa, China and Russia being inflated). But even saying there are actually six billion people, we still have more than enough resources to support the world’s population a hundred times over. However, it doesn’t seem it will be likely because in most of Western Europe and in the tiger Asian economies, population has dipped below replacement level. To reach replacement level, each family must produce two children: one for mom, one for dad. If they fall below this level, population will naturally decrease, whereas producing more children than two causes the population level to elevate. In Italy for example, the average amount of a children in a family is 1.5, well below replacement level. This means that in 50 years, there will fewer Italians running around than there are today.
