Is there a connection between Woody Guthrie and President Wilson?
Famous folk artist Woody Guthrie was named after Woodrow Wilson. His dad, Charles Guthrie, known as Charley, was an industrious businessman, owning at one time up to 30 plots of land in Okfuskee county. Charley was also actively involved in Oklahoma politics and was a Democratic candidate for office in the county. The young Guthrie would often accompany his father when Charley made stump speeches in the area.
