Alprazolam is the generic equivalent of Xanax. Although Xanax is manufactured exclusively by the Pfizer drug company alprazolam is produced by many numerous companies however both products have the same active ingredients. The food and drug administration requires that generic medications go through extensive testing and studies to determine that it is indeed as effective and safe as the name brand however they do allow generic versions to be made using different inactive ingredients in some cases.
