Is there a difference in the severance policy for classified staff and university staff?

Classified employees are covered by the Virginia Personnel Act and the Workforce Transition Act. State Policy 1.57 ‘Severance Benefits’ identifies the benefits available to classified staff employees. University Policy 4245 defines the severance policy for University Staff. In accordance with the terms of the Restructured Higher Education Financial and Administrative Operations Act (The Act), faculty employees regardless of the date of hire and non-faculty salaried employees (University Staff) hired on or after July 1, 2006 are no longer covered by the Workforce Transition Act (WTA).
