Is there a distance learning option available for the certificate in education?

I’m sure there are many classes towards the certificate or degree that can be taken online. Other classes however cannot be as they involve active projects and actually working with children. Check with your local university that has a Dept. of Education to see what your options are. Many will let you take all your Gen. Ed. classes online and only require you to actually come in for the upper level education courses. Online courses often have stricter standards and harder assignments as the possability of cheating is increased. Also, to stay in an education major you generally have to maintain a GPA of over 3.0 (or even 3.5) throughout your time in college. If you are unsure if you really want to be a teacher, try taking Foundations of Education which is one of the first classes in the degree program. That class can help you decide if you DO want to teach, and at what grade level.
