Is there a formula for caulculating weight required to counterbalance a cantilever of known length?
A true canatilever does not use a counter weight. If you want to balance the load of a beam near one end, then the lenght X weight of each side of the balance point should be equal. Look up engineering statics equations. You will probably need to use several equations, depending on your application.
