There are three kinds of which two are legally accepted. 1) Amniocentesis (Where they stick a needle into the amniotic sac and remove a small amount of amniotic fluid) 2) chorionic villus sampling (CVS) (Where they take a small number of placental cells either through the cervix or through the abdominal wall depending on a few things) The third is the questionable one: some labs claim to be able to isolate fetal blood cells from maternal blood samples. While it is true that a very small number of fetal blood cells float around mom’s blood supply (either all the time or only in some women they aren’t really sure) its far from accepted that you can isolate and then test these cells. http://www.paternity-answers.com/paterni… http://www.dnaplus.com/fetal_cell_prenat…

Yes there is I had one done!! There are difficulties with having them done and the biggest one I found was actually finding a doctor to do it! We literally had to call a ton of different hospitals in order to finally find one that would do it. What they do is called an amniocentesis – which I am sure you have heard of! They take some amneotic fluid and have the DNA tested before hand. We also had to pay for it out of our pocket and it cost 2500 bucks. That was basically what we had to tell the doctors was listen we want this done we understand the risks and we are paying for it with cash so either you’ll do it or you wont. We also had to wait till I was 18 weeks to get it done! So is it possible yes a pain in the **** absolutely but in the end completely worth it!!! Oh yeah and they do not stick a needle directly into the fetus – the only risk is that the fetus might move in utero while they are doing the amnio and be pricked by the needle but this is such a miniscule chance. Dont worr

I’m sure that with technology these days that it could be done. However, I don’t think that doctors would due to the risk that it could cause your baby. Waiting until after the baby is born would be the smartest thing to do.

I’m pretty sure there is one. But a lot of doctors don’t recommend it because fluid has to be taken from the amniotic sac which can be dangerouss to the baby.
