Is there a policy on power tool use for Eagle projects?

Power tools that “bite” should not be used by youth (under 18) in carrying out Eagle projects. Under appropriate adult supervision, per the Guide to Safe Scouting, such tools may be used for example to earn specific merit badges. But an Eagle project is not one scout and his buddy working in a machine shop with a trained adult. An Eagle Leadership Project is LED BY A YOUTH. Youth-led groups are not appropriate contexts for youth to safely use tools that “bite”: Examples of such tools are power saws, lawn mowers, routers, chain saws, or nail guns. With appropriate care, power sanders, drivers, and drills have been safely used by youth in successful Eagle projects. Unit leaders may set more restrictive policies. Remember…Stay out of the Risk Zone!
