Is there a recipe for Plain Old Fashioned Stuffing?
Tear a 1 1/2 lb. loaf of day-old bread in 1/2-inch pieces or use purchased plain stuffing to measure 3 quarts; set aside. Saut 3 cups chopped onion and 2 1/2 cups chopped celery in 1/2 cup butter or margarine, just until tender. Add to bread along with 1 tsp. salt, 1 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning, and 1/4 cup chopped parsley. Toss lightly until well mixed. Place in two buttered, covered casserole dishes or place loosely into neck and body cavities of turkey. For baking in casserole dishes: bake at 325 degrees F for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 minutes longer. Makes 8 to 10 cups stuffing after baking. For baking inside the turkey: use 1/2 to 3/4 cup stuffing per pound of bird weight, stuff neck and body cavities loosely, stuffing will expand as it cooks.
